内容記述 The effect of the pupal brain on the termination of the pupal diapause was confirmed by the extirpation and transplantation experiments in S. cynthia pryeri, and the neurosecretory cells as the site of production of the brain hormone were investigated. Besides above study the effect of the incubatory condition on the rate of imagination of the pupae was investigated. From a comparative consideration of the electrical activity of the brain with the results of the brain extirpation and transplantation experiments in the diapausing pupae and in the developing pupae, it was suggested that the brain hormone secreted after the occurrence of the electrical activity of the brain. This information was basically consistent with those of cecropia silkworm. Electrical stimulation to the brain of the diapausing pupae brought the acceleratory effect for the termination of diapause. From brain transplantation experiments in which chilled pupae were transplanted brains of developing pupae, it was suggested that a factor being inhibitory to the release of brain hormone of the host appeared in the postcritical period of donor brain. It seems reasonable to conclude that the source of the brain hormone for the termination of diapause is lateral B cells of the neurosecretory cells of pars intercerebralis. A fact that a remarkable increase in the rate of imagination was obtained from the preincubation of diapausing pupae at 20℃ for a proper period suggests that there are at least two separate steps during the development of diapausing pupa.
