A 16S rRNA gene sequence-based phylogenetic analysis showed the strain belonged to the family Neisseriaceae but was distantly related (\u003c94% identity) to any previously known species. Since the strain was clearly distinct from closely related genera in phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, it should be classified under a new genus and a new species. We propose the name Chitiniphilus shinanonensis gen. nov., sp. nov.
