Study on Scratch of Stylus by Means of Electron Microscope

In order to investigate the influence of the scratch of the stylus on the examination of the surface roughness, the scratch of the stylus was made on the lapped surfaces of iron, nickel, and copper. The scratching load was varied in the range from 125 mg to 1000 mg. The widths of the formed scratches were measured with an electron microscope. The relationship between the widths of the scratches and the scratching load and the relationship between the kind of the metal and the depth of the scratch were clarified from the point of view of the surface roughness examination.
