"ネパールにおいて、1984年以来、植物遺伝資源の収集と聞き取り調査を行ってきた。作物別の収集点数とその標高分布から、ネパールの農業における新大陸起源の作物の占める位置について考察した。新大陸作物は栽培の歴史が短いにもかかわらず、ネパールの農業において重要な位置を占めていた。トウモロコシはイネに次ぐ栽培面積と生産量を持つ丘陵地帯の最も重要な穀類となっており、多くの在来系統と、多様な作付体系が成立していた。バレイショはイモ類生産量の70％を占め、他作物の栽培が困難な標高3500m以上まで栽培されており、高地における重要な主食作物になっていた。さらにトウガラシはネパールの食生活に欠かせないものとなっている。これら収集した新大陸作物（トウモロコシ、インゲンマメ、アマランサス、トウガラシ）の在来系統の諸特性を栽培調査したところ、多様な変異が認められ、遺伝資源として有用であることを確認した。",
