Observation was repeated 15 times in total using 26 matrilineal Kiso horses of various ages including foals. It was found that each horse occupied almost always the same position at the trough. Especially, the positions of older mares and female juveniles were fixed (Table 2, 4). Mares and their foals occupied adjacent positions. Until 1 month after birth, foals stayed very close to their mares and began to increase the social distance from 3 to 6 months of age (Table 3).
