Fac. Agric., Shinshu Univ. 20, 173: 1983). 1. The hones of the pelvic limb of the Japanese serow consisted of the os coxae, os femoris, patella, tibia, fibula, tarsus, metatarsus, digits, sesamoids and two nodular vestigial phalanges in a dew claw. The various parts of the bones were observed. 2. The bones of the pelvic limb of the Japanese serow had general features of the bones of ruminants and generally resembled those of the domestic goat and sheep, and they could be distinguished from those of the ox with size of each bone. 3. The os coxae of the Japanese serow was distinguished from those of the goat and sheep in the following points : obturator foramen, acetabulum, depression for lateral tendon of rectus femoris, wing and crest of ilium, tuber coxae, tuber sacrale, gluteal surface and gluteal line of ilium, greater ischiatic notch, body of ischium, tabula of ischium, ischiatic tuber, lesser ischiatic notch, pecten of pubis, groove for obturator and groove for femoris accessory ligament. We noted that in the border of the obturator foramen of the Japanese serow, the dorsal and ventral obturator tubercles (Tuberculum obturatorium dorsale et ventrale) were presented, although the terms were not employed on the Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria. 4. The pelvis of the Japanese serow was investigated on sexual difference. It could be distinguished from those of the goat and sheep with the shape of the pelvic cavity. 5. The os femoris of the Japanese serow was distinguished from those of the goat and sheep in the following points : head, fovea, neck, trochanteric fossa, intertrochanteric crest, greater trochanter, tuberosity of femoris, supracondyloid fossa, intercondyloid fossa and nutrient foramen. 6. The patella of the Japanese serow was different from that of the ox, but resembled those of the goat and sheep. 7. The tibia and fibula of the Japanese serow were distinguished from those of the goat and sheep in the following points : lateral condyle, popliteal notch, intercondyloid area, intercondyloid eminence, tuberosity, body, cranial border, lateral surface and distal extremity in the tibia. The fibula of the Japanese serow consisted of head and lateral malleolus, and it was resembled those of the goat and sheep. 8. The tibia was the longest bone in the body of the Japanese serow. The length of the long bones of the Japanese serow were ordered as follows, tibia, ulna, os femoris, humerus, radius, metatarsal and metacarpal bones. 9. The tarsal bones of the Japanese serow were different from those of the ox in some part, and they resembled those of the goat and sheep. 10. The metatarsal bones of the Japanese serow were different from those of the goat and sheep in the situation of the rudimentary metatarsal II and intertrochlear incisure. Notable differences between the metacarpal and metatarsal bones of the Japanese serow were morphologically presented and different from those of the goat. 11. The digits of the Japanese serow were long and thin, which were similar to those of the goat and sheep, while those of the ox were short and thick. The digits of the thoracic limb were thicker and shorter than those of the pelvic limb on the Japanese serow. 12.
