The forages used as substrate of the artificial rumen were red clover, white clover, orchard grass and tall fescue at the vegetative, blooming and fruitage stages, and C0₂-treated incubation medium (pH 6.9) consisted of goat rumen juice and McDougall's synthetic saliva other than forage substrate. Gas production was measured with pipett method at intervals of 1 hour during 15-hour period of incubation of the artificial rumen at 39℃. The results obtained are as follows: 1) Coefficient of variation of gas production per hour obtained from different fermentors with same substrate in an experiment ranged from 2.3 to 28.1% 2) Gas production per hour (GPR) from incubation medium without substrate was steady state 6 hours or later after the start of incubation. 3) GPR of pulp cellulose decreased until 4.36 hours, then remained unchanged up to 9.75 hours and thereafter increased until the end of incubation. 4) GPR of all the forages tested was the highest when the maturity of the forage was vegetative, and followed by the blooming and fruitage stages, in order of decreasing rate. 5) Peak of GPR was observed in the first half of incubation period with white clover, while in the latter half of incubation period with red clover. 6) GPR when orchadgrass or tall fescue was used as substrate began to increase linearly at 3.33 and 3.66 hours and reached peaks at 10.66 and 10.33 hours, respectively, after the start of incubation. 7) NDF digestibility of red clover and orchard grass increased in an approximately linear manner during 15-hour incubation period. These results suggest that forages such as legumes and grass have characteristic patterns of gas production under the present experimental conditions and also that the evaluation of cellulose digestion in roughages by gas production is possible., Article, 信州大学農学部紀要 21(2): 111-118(1984)}, pages = {111--118}, title = {牧草を基質とした人工第一胃のガス産生像}, volume = {21}, year = {1984} }
