The results obtained with macro-and microscopic observations are summarized as follows : 1. The thymus of the young goat consists of thoracic, cervical and cranial lobes. It is reduced and changed into the adipose tissue with age, in turn from the cranial lobes. 2. The Hassall's corpuscles of the thymus of the goats arise from degenerated reticular cells and then they become large, presenting concentric structure with the involution of the thymus. Since the thymus parenchyma of the adult goats is extremely reduced, the density of their Hassall's corpuscles is higher than that of the young goats. Moreover, the number of the corpuscles of the dead goat thymus is more than tenfold of that of the adult goats. 3. The thymus of the dead goat is extremely degenerated and has numerous Hassall's corpuscles and blood vessels in it's medulla. However, there is no adipose tissue in such thymus. The weight of the thymus of the male hormone injected goats is lighter than that of the control thymus, but there is no histological difference between them. 4. It is supposed that thymic cysts of the goats arise from the specialized large Hassall's corpuscles. In this experiment, their cysts appear for a time in the course of age involution of the thymus of the goats and they may participate the function of the thymus in company with the Hassall's corpuscles., Article, 信州大学農学部紀要 19(2): 105-116(1982)}, pages = {105--116}, title = {山羊胸腺の退縮過程におけるハッサル小体とハV胞の機能形態について}, volume = {19}, year = {1982} }
