Recently its habitats have rapidly decreased, so this butterfly was designated Near Threatened by the Ministry of the Environment. The relation between seasonal prevalence of occurrences of P. argus adults and mowing of the ridge were investigated in crop fields of Masumigaoka,Ina City.The numbers of butterflies were counted 20 times at 9 survey points from May 28 to July 28 in 2010. Management of mowing of the ridge or spraying of a herbicide, and the area growing mugwort, Artemisia indica which is host plant of P. argus were recorded. By 20 investigations, a total of 947 adults of 725 males and 222 females were observed.The butterfly was observed first on May 28 (1 male). The peaks of male and female occurrences were on June 21 and June 25, respectively. Six females were seen at the end on July 27.Japanese pampas grass and a lot of mugwort existed in the fallow field, where many P. argus adults were found. Mowing was performed once or twice for small range somewhat periodically at any investigation point during the survey period.A herbicide was used partially at several crop fields.
