"宮島吉彦氏が作成，分類，管理を行ってきた植物さく葉標本を，関係者のご厚意により，2007年に信州大学農学部で寄贈を受けることになった。標本は全63分冊にファイルされ，採集の地点および日付の異なるものを１点として数えたところ，標本数は約4800点であった。内訳は，シダ植物以上の維管束植物176科2209種であった。標本の特徴として，長野県内だけでなく日本各地での採集品が含まれていること，木本・草本植物とも充実していること，変種や品種の収集が多いこと，分類の難しい種群については専門家に同定を依頼していることが挙げられる。さく葉標本としては変則的ながら，写真の添付や，近縁種の葉などを同じ台紙に配置した形態比較も行われていた。これらは植物の分類や生態についての非常に貴重な資料であるとともに，後進の学徒が見習うべき真摯な学究の足跡であるといえる。",
