This paper presents detailed discussion on the soil mechanics of the denuded lands, especially on the lands in Nagano districts. From the observations and experimental facts we obtained the forms of the denuded lands in Nagano districts may be summarised as follws: 1) The land-creeps and disintegrations are observed in the crushed-zones (Trummerzon) of crystalline. It was found that the former is of small scale from the geological and soil mechanical point of view, compared with that of tertiary, and the later was simillar with a land-creeps, on which more immense and unstable sands and soils are found than the other cases. It has been reported that when a disintegration occurs once in a place, the land slide in the some place is seldom found afterward. This specific characters are known as immunity. However, the secondary disasters attracted keenly our attention. 2) Since the soil mechanics of diluvial originate in the weatherings of granite are apt be eroded, the surface soils are eroded intensely. Then this erosion is found to grow into the gully erosion, and at last into the large disintegration. 3) When the soils of tertiary originate in the clay of the weatherings shale are dry, the resisting power aganinst the land-creepings and land-slidings are found to be large. On the other hand when they absorb moisture, the shearresists of the soils extremely lower. Namely the unstability against the land-creepings in this case was considered to be get liquidity. 4) The denuded lands of palaeozoic are observed to be settled in many cases without the hillside works.
