This study is about the relation between log production and environment, especially in Oregon and Washington, the Northwest of America. In the Northwest area, the old growth has remained to the last in America. Forestry and log industry are concentrated in it. But recently the old growth is decreasing. If log production is continued at the present speed, ancient forest will inevitably cease to exist in the near future. The extinction of the old growth will give us various demerits. Environmental protection organization had a critical feeling for that and started the protection movement of the old growth and Spotted owl. Log industry intending more logging, and protection organization have been opposed each other. We investigated the actual condition of the old growth and forestry in the Northwest and studied the problems of the old growth and Spotted owl. These days administration's concern for the old growth has changed from production to protection. The great change, from log production to protection, is progressing rapidly even in America that has been well-known for its inexhaustible resources. This fact will have much effect on forest, forestry, log production in Japan., Article, 信州大学農学部演習林報告 28: 15-36(1991)}, pages = {15--36}, title = {アメリカ合衆国における林業生産と環境問題 : マダラフクロウ問題を軸点として}, volume = {28}, year = {1991} }
