According to the experimental result, a certain portion of the metal concerned with the deformation by the cutting tool is removed as the chip and the rest remains on the both sides of the groove or the track of the cutting edge as the swell-up. The volume of swelling-up becomes larger in accordance with the increase of the cutting edge angle and smaller in accordance with the increase of the cutting speed.
