Such micro-silk powder should be fine enough to be included in the viscose-rayon fibers, which are formed by extruding a viscous polymer solution from very small mouthpieces. First, a treatment of roughly ground silk powder by hot alkaline water was tried expecting that the alkali dissolves the silk particles at their edges to make sphere-shaped micro powders. Although this method was not successful, resulting silk particles showed a novel flake-shaped appearance on which we have had some expectations to utilize for purposes other than fiber materials. Gamma ray irradiation on silk filaments was quite effective in weakening the mechanical strength of the fibers. Silk filaments exposed to 2000 Gy gamma ray were easily ground into fine particles around 1 /1m in diameter only by grinding by ordinal ball-mills., Article, 先進ファイバー工学研究教育拠点研究成果報告書 10: 44-44(2004)}, title = {15-2-2 :マイクロシルクパウダーの作成条件}, year = {2004} }
