Conventional photocatalysts do not function in the dark because light can not reach the photocatalysts. Light leaking optical fibers were coated with titanium oxide photocatalyst, resulting in photocatalytic fiber functioning in the dark water or soils. Light enters the fiber through its end section, progress in the core, leaks out through the side surface of the fiber, and activates the photocatalyst surrounding the fiber surface. In a demonstration experiment the photocatalytic fiber could decompose methylene blue dye in the dark water when UV light was introduced to the fiber., Article, 先進ファイバー工学研究教育拠点研究成果報告書 10: 97-97(2004)}, title = {15-4-1 :漏光型光触媒繊維の開発 : 触媒探索とファイバ作製プロセスの検討}, year = {2004} }
