Such philosophical ideas as group-man theory and "is"-thinking which are produced by Steinbeck who lays stress on animality of man, are unpolished, often spoiled and confused by sentimentality and mysticism. American realism begins to recede in his work. Humanity and sanity seem to characterize his realism.
