This inspired, as its reaction, a new trend among their contemporary antagonists, the Confucians, to contrive to ground their views of Buddhism, through the deeper investigation of the Buddlists scriptures, on a more solid basis of knowledge. Hence a new school of Confucian philosophy known by the name of \"Sung hsiao\" (宋学) was established. Chang tsai (張載) is one of the forerunners of the branch, his rejection of Buddhistic vission is remarkable.
