Meaning must be realized or embodied in sounds or letters in order to be communicated to others. The main aim of language is"communication" which is essentially social. What is the meaning of meaning ? To mean is to intend. What makes man intend is interest or concern. So, to inquire into "meaning" is to inquire into humanity itself. Through language . and speech we can. know what man is. And we can know language and speech well through humanity. So my method is anthropological. This essay falls into two parts, (I) phenomenology of meaning and(II) esthetics of meaning. Meaning must be studied in a certain concrete situation, where "the whole is prior to the part". The structure of meaning in language cannot be reduced to its first elements. From this point of riew the making of words and sentences is considered. And next the relation between meaning and style is clarified., Article, 信州大学文理学部紀要 5: 55-64(1955)}, pages = {55--64}, title = {言語に於ける≪意味≫について:人間学的考察}, volume = {5}, year = {1955} }
