Those who had been taught by him in the Imai Primary School constructed a monument in Kamijō's honor on the 25th of December, 1928. The movement of Syokyō-Sha, a political party of democrats, was started in Matsumoto, Nagano Pref. on the eleventh of April in 1880. Ariji Kamijō had engaged early in the establishment of the party as one of the foundation member, so that we can safely imagine that the democratic thoughts appeared in political bills and application letters demanding the opening of parliament issued by Syōkyō-Sha were largely taken from Kamijō's ideas and thoughts of Democracy. But he became a teacher the following year in the Imai Primary School, and led a calm life for the rest of his life. This makes a clear contrast to the eventful and stormy life of Kyūsaku Matsuzawa and so the monument in Kamijō's honor was constructed later than that in Matsuzawa's honor. The inscription on this monument was written by Mr, Masaharu Katō, professor at Tōkyō Imperial University. Mr, kamijō did not know him well. In this treatiese a study is made of the reason why Masaharu Katō was chosen to write it, in spite of the fact that there was no intimate relations between them two., Article, 信州大学教養部紀要. 第一部, 人文科学 1: 1-12(1966)}, pages = {1--12}, title = {上条螳司の頌徳碑とその碑文:自由民権運動の一面から}, volume = {1}, year = {1966} }
