We surveyed 46 mothers at a health facility in a town in Nagano prefecture using self-questionnaires with questions in five categories: mother’s incompetence in child care, restriction of child care,lack of social and family support for infant care,character of their child,and lack of knowledge and skill about child care. The results showed that the lack of knowledge and skill in providing care, lack of social and family support for infant care, and the character of their child were important factors in increasing stress in the mothers.
