The purpose of this study is to propose maintenance methods for these bryophytes based on the relationship between ground cover mosses and environmental factors. A Japanese garden in Kyoto city was selected as the study site. Using the belt transect method, 48 quadrats (20 cm \u00d7 20 cm) were established to investigate the influence of environmental factors on 9 species of major ground cover mosses. The environmental factors measured were as follows :solar radiation, water evaporation, soil hardness, soil water content, and soil pH. Detrended correspondence analysis indicated that the distribution of ground cover bryophytes was determined mainly by solar radiation, followed by grass cover. These environmental factors were related to tree coverage and weeding intensity, respectively. 内容記述 京都市内の代表的な日本庭園の一つである平安神宮庭園を調査地として,庭園景観上重要な地生蘚苔類の生育環境を把握し,その管理手法について検討した。ベルトトランセクト法を用いて調査地内に48コドラートを設置し,各種の被度と環境条件(日射量・水分蒸発量・土壌含水量・土壌硬度・土壌pH,草本被度)を記録,計測した。Detrended Correspondence Analysis を用いて各種の分布と環境条件との関係を解析した結果,各種の分布には日射量と草本被度が強く影響していることが明らかになった。これらの環境条件と庭園環境との関係を検討したところ,日射量は樹林タイプ,草本被度は管理頻度と関連していると考えられた。以上の結果に基づき,樹林管理による日射量の調整と除草による草本被度の抑制に着目した地生蘚苔類の管理手法が提案された。 Bryophytes, particularly mosses, are one of the most important ground cover plants in Japanese gardens.
