| 内容記述 | To examine the effect of temperature on the growth of cyclamen, four experi-ments were carried out under the conditions of which each stage of juvenile, adult and flowering was regulated by temperature as meet with course of the practical culture. 1) Cyclamen cultivar, "Vuurbaak" was grown at the night temperatures of 5°, 10°, 15° and 20℃ (20℃ at the day) respectively, for 110 days (from December 10 to March 20) from the stage of one leaf. The growth of seedlings delayed with low night temperature, and the degree of delay was more conspicuous at below 10℃. 2) Cyclamen cultivar, "Salmon Pink" was grown at 30℃ day and 25℃ night, and at 20℃ day and night respectively, for 144 days (from August 22 to January 13) from the stage of 6-7 leaves. The top growth and flower bud development were evidently inhibited at 30℃ day and 25℃ night compared with another temperatures, however, number of flower buds in the former was superior to that in the latter. 3) Cyclamen cultivar, "Vuurbaak" which reached in the early stage of flowering was kept at the night temperatures of 5°, 10°, 15° and 20℃ (20℃ at the day) respectively, for 45 days (from December 1 to January 14). The pace of flowering delayed with each decrease of 5℃ in night temperature. Especially the trend was more remarkably on the flower bud whose development had delayed at the starting time. On the contrary, the longevity of flower was obviously increased as the night temperature became lower. 4) Flowering cyclamens of cultivars "Vuurbaak" and "Pure White" were treated for 2 hours at 2.5°, 0°, -2° and -4℃ respectively, in order to ascertain the limit of direct damage by the low temperature in winter season. From the results, it is presumed that the critical low temperature at which no damage occur are about 0℃ in both petal and flower bud, about -1℃ in leaf and about -2℃ in tuber, respectively. 5) Based on the results mentioned above, the author will discuss on the point at issue on temperature control in the practical culture of cyclamen in Japan. | |||||||
