"冷涼な高標高の採草地に適する寒地型イネ牧草の選定に資するため，１番草の刈取り日による飼料成分と消化性の推移を調べた。造成後20年以上経過した採草地に偏在して優占しているオーチャードグラス，チモシー，リードカナリーグラスおよびシバムギの４草種を２ヵ年間，６月２日，６月22日，７月12日の３回刈取り，生育ステージ，草丈，乾物収量を調べた。また牧草の灰分，粗タンパク質，中性デタージェント繊維，酸性デタージェント繊維，リグニン，ケイ酸含量を分析し，さらにin vitro法による中性デタージェント繊維の分解率を測定した。生育の進行はオーチャードグラスが最も早く，以下リードカナリーグラス，シバムギ，チモシーの順であった。７月12日の乾物収量はチモシーが最も多く，以下リードカナリーグラス，シバムギ，オーチャードグラスの順であった。４草種とも生育が進むに伴って，粗タンパク質含量は低下し，繊維成分が増加し，特に出穂後のリグニンの増加が顕著であった。中性デタージェント繊維分解率は，６月２日刈りでは草種間差が小さかったが，その後の草種による低下の程度が異なり，７月12日刈りの分解率はチモシーが最も高く，リードカナリーグラスが最も低く，各草種間に有意差がみられた。中性デタージェント繊維分解率はリグニン含量と有意に高い負の相関があり，特にケイ酸を含むリグニンとの相関（r－0.958，p＜0.01）が最も高かった。これらのことから，高標高草地の採草用草種として，収量と飼料価値からチモシーの適性が高いこと，１番草イネ科牧草の消化性の推定はケイ酸を含むリグニン含量から推定できることを示した。",
