"患児は入院することで,治療・処置などにより,身体の動きを制限される,あるいは長期の安静が指示されることが多い。しかし,実際に患児や健常児が1日にどれくらいの活動をしているのかについて報告されているものは少ない。今回当院の小児科に入院中の3歳から小学6年生までの患児における活動量を,1日の歩数について入院中と外出時に測定し,入院生活が患児にもたらす活動量の変化について検討した。患児8名の3日間の平均歩数をみると,11歳女児1名を除き他は外泊時より入院中のほうが歩数が少なかった。奥原らの調査によると,健常時の4歳女児の1日の平均歩数は約2万歩であった。今回の調査では,活動制限されていない状態の安定した期間を選んで行ったにもかかわらず,4歳女児の入院中の歩数は2886歩であり,健常児の14%程度と非常に少なかった。身体を動かすことは,子どもにとってあらゆる生活と発達の基礎であり,衝動や緊張のコントロールのメカニズムとしても重要な役割をもっている。そこで,私達看護婦の援助として,入院中の息児には室内あるいはその周囲の活動だけでない,空間的に広がりを持たせた活動を支援していく必要がある。",
