"絶滅危惧種であるクモマツマキチョウを保全し絶滅から守るためには，定量的で効率的な飼育体系を確立する必要がある。本報告は2012年に著者らが行った本種の飼育方法と得られた飼育に関する定量的データを記載したものである。卵の採卵にはメス成虫３個体から81卵を採卵することができた。卵は75.9％が孵化した。幼虫の飼育は直方体プラスチックシャーレで行った。餌としてミヤマハタザオを与えて，個別飼育を行った。温度は20℃，日長は12Ｌ：12Ｄと一定にした。幼虫期の生存率は68.2％であった。１～２齢幼虫では死亡する個体が見られたが，３齢幼虫以降は１個体も死亡しなかった。幼虫期の平均日数は18.20日であった。幼虫の体長の平均は緩やかに増加し，５齢幼虫期の25.8㎜が最大であった。蛹体重は蛹化７日目で125.7㎎で時間がたつにつれて軽くなった。蛹化28日後から３つの処理期間（75日，105日，135日）で低温処理（４℃）を行った。その結果，処理期間が短いほど，処理後から羽化までの日数が長くなった。また135日の低温処理では，すべての羽化成虫が口吻が融合していない奇形だった。成虫は最長で47日間生存した。",
