内容記述 Carbon fibers have been obtained by thermal decomposition on a ceramic or graphite substrate heated in a range of 1100℃~1300℃, from a mixture of H₂ as a carrier gas and vaporized hydrocarbon such as benzene. With N₂ as the carrier gas, however, no carbon fiber is observed. By this method, if the partial pressure of hydrocarbon, the amount of carrier gas and the time period for thermal decomposition are properly chosen, a large amount of carbon fibers of the diameter ranging from 7 μ to 100 μ and of the length reaching 25 cm can be obtained.
