| 内容記述 | There is a certain deficiency to be detected in science, however marvellous its achievements may be. What makes up the deficiency is savageness. Thus, science and savageness are complementary to each other. And, the examination of Thoreau's Walden reveals that he considers wildness to be an integral whole of science and savageness. The wildness is the distinguished quality that all men should develop, the quality necessary for all who earnestly wish to, in Thoreau's words, "make our civilization a blessing." If we refer as the "wild men" to the men having the wild quality, the "wild men" retain the practical, experiential, intuitional, and immediate relationship to nature. | |||||
